Homeschool Artschool -ages 6-8

Let's make art at home!

   Watch Promo

At the moment, with schools closing all over the place, homeschooling has become the new normal! if your kids are stuck at home and you want some fun art activities then this is the class for them!

Before becoming an online educator and self employed artist, I taught as an art specialist in primary school here in Scotland, to age 5-11, for nearly 15 years. I have so many cool lessons in my head I thought it would be fun to put them here online so they can be accessed by anyone worldwide!

We will be focusing on activities that are aimed at around the 6-8 age group (I shall also have a class for older children too!) so, if you are:

  • a parent who wishes to get ideas on art activities for your children to aid them in their education
  • a school age kid who wants to watch proper, real time, school quality art lessons that are also FUN
  • a teacher who wants advice on the kinds of art lessons you can teach your class

then this class is for you!

We shall be having weekly lessons, using easily available art materials, that will teach REAL ART SKILLS!

Take a look at the first four projects we shall be doing! (the first two are already up in the classroom and the next two will be published weekly)

These lessons will be fun but also educational, we will be concentrating on skills in art that will fully educate your child in the art elements of line, shape, form, colour, value, texture and space. We will be doing projects such as repeat patterns, graffiti art, lettering, portraits, drawing objects around the house, perspective and more! I want to keep it simple so we will be using art materials that most of you should have already in your house (full list is below) and if you don't, they will be affordable and easily accessed through amazon or similar online shops. I will always discuss substitutes that you can use if you do not have a certain medium so the lessons are still accessible to you.

Each week, we will have a video tutorial, and any supplemental learning materials (such as photographic references or printable worksheets) will also be added to the classroom available to download and print off.

The classroom has a discussion section at the bottom of each page, so you can post pictures of your completed artwork to get feedback from myself and other students. This is a completely safe space that is not accessed by the general public so only me and my students (or their parents) can see and comment. Because this is a children's class, I will moderate it so that I read each comment before approving what is put up (so be patient while I do this if your photo or comment does not show straight away) this will keep the space safe for everyone.

This is a subscription based learning model, so you pay monthly the small fee of $12 (VAT may be applied to the cost depending on the country you are from) and for that we will have weekly lessons! If at anytime you wish to stop, you can just stop your subscription.

So, if you are ready to get arty with me, join in the fun by signing up!

P.S. please note, I originally divided the classes up as 5-7 and 8-11 but have revised these and made them 6-8 and 9-12 BUT this is just a guide! you can choose depending on the ability of your own child! Some children age 5/6 do a lot of drawing and will be ready for the lessons in the younger age group category, while some may not. Some children aged 9 will do better with the younger age group category that is a bit simpler and has more basic lessons. If for any reason you start to take one course and decide you should have bought the other one, please get in touch with me and I can switch you around!

We will use art materials that most people should be able to access easily, have around the house already, or are cheap to buy and order online. These include:

  • Pencils (if you have a small selection that is great - so say an HB, 2B and 2H - but if you don't, an HB will work fine!)
  • an eraser and pencil sharpener
  • colouring pencils - any make will do!
  • felt pens
  • sharpies are a fun edition if you have them!
  • a black fine liner pen
  • paper (a cheap pad of paper, or photocopy paper will do for most projects. If you have a slightly thicker pad of paper that will take water then that's great too!)
  • some old magazines for cutting up/collage
  • glue stick
  • crayons or oil pastels
  • we may do a few lessons using cheap watercolours - so for these you would need some paints and brushes.
  • we will be looking around our houses for things to draw, things to draw around to create shapes, and perhaps some junk modelling!
